Raising awareness in East London

Happy 2015 to all my readers – It’s the start of my blog! Thank you to all those who supported me last year! I recently gave an awareness raising talk about the My Life, My Decision project in Tower Hamlets with the ‘Bow Belles Ladies Group’. This group empowers its 30-strong membership to be independent and make their own choices in a friendly, safe and welcoming environment. They now have their own constitution and raise all their own funds. My talk about how to make sure healthcare professionals know your wishes for your future care and treatment was warmly received. The group, whose pictures show them to be the enthusiastic, fun-loving group they are, were keen to learn more about their rights and I learnt a lot from them too. A few of the ladies were interested in completing either a Lasting Power of Attorney for Health and Welfare (LPA) or an Advance Decision to Refuse Treatment, and will contact me when they’re ready. I hope to work with organisations, stakeholders and groups across the three boroughs we cover in East London. I cannot wait to see the other MLMD Project Coordinators across the UK at the upcoming two day Residential.   Ann-Marie Kargbo, MLMD Project Coordinator for Age UK East London
