Fee to Register a Lasting Power of Attorney Reduced to £82
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) for Health & Welfare is a document that allows you to appoint someone you trust to make decisions about your health & welfare when you can no longer make these decisions yourself.
You can also make a Lasting Power of Attorney for Property & Financial Affairs.
Compassion in Dying welcomes the news that from 1 October 2013, the application fees for registering both LPAs and the older enduring powers of attorney (EPA) will both be reduced from £130 to £110.
This reduction in fees is possible due to the fantastic success of the ‘transformation programme’ carried out by the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), which has included the implementation of more efficient processes as well as a technology upgrade.
The OPG has also recently launched a digital tool, which allows you to fill out the LPA form online. While some parts of the process still have to be done offline, this new tool is really valuable and greatly simplifies the form itself.
You can see the digital LPA tool here:
The OPG doesn’t collect any information from this form until it is actually registered, so feel free to browse through the form if you’d like to see how it works.
