Looking forward to welcoming our new Project Co-ordinators!
This week we have been busy finalising the one day training for our new Project Co-ordinators on the 21st August. We are really excited about meeting them all and hosting them at our offices here on Oxford Street!
The day will start with an introduction to our organisation and an overview of My Life My Decision. Then Usha, our Information Strategy Lead and Eloise, our Co-ordinator will talk about the services they provide, making information easily accessible and how we monitor the work. The information line will play a crucial part in supporting the Project Co-ordinators to deliver clear, accessible and up to date information about end-of-life rights within the current law.
The main focus, however, will be discussing and exploring mental capacity act, and current rights and choices. This is part of our core module and one that will be delivered the most across the different localities. It’s been interesting adapting it for use by other people. As staff members we are so used to the content and the exercise had really made us focus on what the main messages are and how best to communicate them to different audiences. We have also learned a huge amount from our pilot in East London, and we are really keen to share this learning with the new team as well as learning from what they can bring.
The day will finish with discussing the support available to the Project Co-ordinators. We really want them to feel supported in their roles and we several ideas for how we might do this:
- Our Residential event at The University of Warwick on the 10th and 11th of September will help consolidate the learning so far and also develop more in-depth knowledge from The Office of The Public Guardian around Health and Personal Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney.
- Our Action Learning Sets will involve working on real challenges within My Life My Decision using the knowledge and skills of Project Co-ordinators to re-interpret familiar concepts and produce fresh ideas and our Online Discussion Forums will also be a way for Project Co-ordinators to support and learn from each other and the training leads.
We have been really lucky to have our Trustee Lesley Hall’s input into the training. Lesley brings a lot of experience having delivered training to lots of different groups including GPs and nurses. Lesley has also kindly offered to help with the delivery of the training day.
It’s going to be so interesting meeting everyone from around the country. Everyone will be bringing different skills and interests and we are not only looking forward to training them, but also learning from their experiences. We are very much looking forward to having everyone on board!
