One of the key messages that has come out for us from our pilot project has been around language. Words that we use everyday like end of life and palliative care, can be very scary for many of the older people we come in contact with or are words that are not fully understood or mean something quite different.
Our regular followers will know from our post “What’s In a Name” it is this learning about the impact of the words “end of life” which led to us choosing a new name for the next phase of the project.
When discussing dying and end of life it is really important that everyone involved in the conversation understands what is being said. Good communication is such an important part of good end of life care, and that means thinking about the language being used as well as being a good listener.
We therefore never stop thinking about communication and how we can help ensure that we use the right words when talking to people and when promoting our work. And as you can see from our wordle above we have use lots of technical words in this blog! At the moment we are focusing on digital communication. and we are seeking views from anyone who has used our website. So if you have used our site, we’d love to hear from you. We have developed a short survey for you to share your feedback – click here
And if you have not yet used our website, don’t worry as we will be seeking your thoughts as well. Complete the form below and we will be in touch soon to let you know how you can do this.
You can also share your thoughts through another piece of work. The National Council for Palliative Care are working on a project looking at communication. You may have seen an article in The Guardian about it a few weeks ago. And like us they want to hear from you too. If you can spare 10/15 minutes to complete a short survey then click here
Use the form below if you are interested in contributing in our website re-design or would to share your thoughts around end of life conversations.
